Dear RezYouth Family,
On behalf of myself and all our Leaders, we want to thank you for making this retreat a success. We’re always competing with other youth activities, so we are grateful for all the youth that showed up. Once again we were the largest group!
This year’s theme was an attempt to encourage our youth to think of their lives as extraordinary in the purposes of God. They are “set apart for something bigger than ordinary.” Our group discussions included the topics of being “Set apart by Grace, for the good of the world, and by Jesus” all with a focus on Daniel’s life and his interactions with King Nebuchadnezzar and his kingdom.
Being, “Set apart by Grace” focuses on the grace of God. It “is the fuel powerful enough for the purpose God has for us.” There is a danger in “thinking way too much of ourselves; that we are more powerful than we really are.” “The ‘self’ can’t fuel anything but the ordinary.” Only the grace we have in Jesus is the “fuel” powerful enough for the purposes God has for us. This is fuel that sets us apart for something bigger than ordinary. Like Daniel and his friends.
Our youth (and all of us) were encouraged to think “for the good of the world.” We face daily temptations and opportunities to compromise our Christian values. Yet, we are not to have a retreat from the world mentality, but rather engage the world with our Christian beliefs. Moreover, we are to understand that we were “set apart by Jesus”. “Jesus was set apart for something bigger than ordinary. That is what we’ve been set apart for…too something bigger than ordinary.” Daniel and his friends were faithful and God watched over them. We learned that our hope is in the Kingdom of Jesus, where truth and righteousness will sweep the land. We all have a role in this Kingdom. This is why we were, “Set apart by Grace, for the good of the world and by Jesus.”
Lastly, please join me in thanking our Leaders and volunteers for this year. As some of you know, they have rearranged schedules in order to love and care for our youth. Thank you, Levi & Josie Adkins, Chris & Katie Desmarais, Mitch Kelly, Christina Morgan, Julie Oaks, & Roland Roberts.
Friends, RezYouth keeps bearing fruit for the Kingdom and we thank you for all your encouragement and support. We continue to be blessed.
